Swing a ding ding.

Thursday, May 27th, 2004

Well, he’s not exactly back to his former self just yet.

The bump he got yesterday is fading nicely, however. No frivolous lawsuits against the babysitter or the pool table manufacturer this time around…

He has been pretty avoidant (and generally testy) today, though. Some time in the swing seemed to appease him, as it always does.

I’ve […]

A knock on the noggin.

Rubén appeared more than a little off today. Understandable, I suppose. He had a stressful morning.

MJ and I had left for Ann Arbor on a special errand, so Little Mister was keeping company with Andrea, a wonderful sitter and floortimer who drives down from Lansing once a week to give us a little needed relief. […]

Flying solo.

María José went off to a special seminar today by the head of the Asperger’s clinic at U of M. It was aimed at professionals who want to learn about the various diagnostic tools and treatment options for Aspergers and ASD. This gentleman turned out to be a hard-liner, placed squarely on the far right […]

Days in the Dark.

We had been out of commission for a few days. Layers of individual storms were pounding Mid-Michigan all weekend long. Power went out Friday afternoon and didn’t come back on until Saturday evening. No power, no internet connection, hence no posts.

Outside at play.

We moved our floortime outside yesterday. Rubén is pretty much constantly coming to take us by the hand and lead us to the door. After hitting the play structure for the fourth time yesterday, we decided to bring out some other activities we could enjoy in the Great Outdoors.

Check out the four pics I took […]

Living with ASD in Spain? You’re basically screwed…

Wednesday, May 19th, 2004

Well, we finally got our report back from our neurologist in Spain, complete with the results of all the brain scans and other tests Rubén had to endure at the start of this journey. Thankfully, they were all negative.

It was the finding of this doctor that our son has a moderate speech delay. We should […]

The forest for the trees.

Monday, May 17th, 2004

Katie, our PLAY Project coordinator, came for her monthly visit on Friday. Her words were encouraging.

After a month of listening to my wife lament the general suckiness of our floortime, Katie talked about everything we were doing right, the progress she was seeing in him, and how generally pleased she was. Good to hear.

Perhaps we’re […]

FAQ Question #3: Can you point us to therapists & doctors you’ve found useful?

Sunday, May 16th, 2004

Absolutely.

BUT: Out of respect for their privacy, I will not post their details in this forum. If you live in the Michigan area, and are curious about the members of Rubén’s treatment team, please e-mail me privately and I’ll fill you in on all the details.
