Emerging words.

Saturday, July 31st, 2004

Our son has words. Kind of.

It started with a single “aaaahhh” utterance. He has been using it pretty much universally, to signify “more,” “eat,” “leave me the hell alone,” etc.

We had just begun attempting (in an ignorant and clumsy way) to shape his “aaaahhh” into other syllables. To our utter astonishment, he started to comply.

His […]

Worth the trip.

Friday, July 30th, 2004

We went on a road trip (crusade is more like it, what with all the construction on 94) to have a session with an oral motor specialist. Pam made a mostly good impression. Sweet and kind, while at the same time aggressive and constantly in Rubén’s face (a good thing). She also had some insanely […]

The, erm, Winds of Change.

Thursday, July 29th, 2004

After pulling the vitamin and mineral switcheroo on our young son, his digestive system still seems a bit off-kilter. Add copious amounts of belching and farting to his still mushy stools, and you’ve got yourself a par-tay. Awww, just like his daddy…

Other things are a-changin’ here on the homestead. I speak not of a change […]

Minor adjustments, major changes.

It seems that whenever we alter his supplements (we moved from the Pfeiffer “Primer” to his formal, customized program this week), bad things happen. At least temporarily.

His movements (a sterile and pretty term for poop) also went wacky, from well-formed bolitas to a big messy splatter. Man, growing up I never envisioned that my own […]

Long on shortcomings.

Blecchh.

I managed to catch up on some much needed sleep, blissfully snoozing away from 9pm until 9am. This was the high point of my day.

We officially started Rubén’s supplement program from Pfeiffer. Thus far he’s managed to acclimate fairly well, despite a hefty dose of insomnia-inducing zinc now taken IN THE EVENING. Last night, he […]

Howdy, y’all.

We haven’t had a pic post in a while, so I’m doing a larger one this time ’round, with three different exotic locales:

First off, we’re off to the fabulous Back Yard. This incredible spot offers special geysers of cool water that erupt from the ground like magic! Ideal for splashing, frolicking, and playing. Shoes […]

Public Service Announcement: Remembering Mikey

Tuesday, July 20th, 2004

This is a somewhat off-topic post, but it’s something I feel strongly about.

Last year, a professional acquaintance of ours, Mark Warschauer, lost his 10-month old son to an accident that was his fault. He has since made it his personal mission to spread the word of this tragedy to prevent the same thing from happening […]

Three steps forward, two steps back.

Sunday, July 18th, 2004

Today was a three steps forward day. Maybe even five or six steps.

Yesterday I broke a promise I had made to myself of submitting a minimum of four posts per week. I had had a meeting yesterday morning with a health insurance agent from the National Association of the Self Employed. There is perhaps […]
